“Supercool” is an expression often heard around our house now thanks to a bright and colourful kids app for iPhone and iPad called Monkey Preschool Lunchbox by THUP Games. A popular choice with my kids, this fantastically fun fruit-filled app is aimed at tots around 2-5 years and features an uncluttered interface very easy for young users to navigate.
“Learn and have fun helping Monkey pack his lunch!”
Monkey Preschool Lunchbox is hosted by an energetic monkey and provides an entertaining and educational learning environment. The object of the game is to solve different mini-games that change with each turn and cover a combination of sorting, matching, colours, number and letter recognition and problem solving activities. Upon successfully completing an activity, the adorable little monkey claps his hands or somersaults while cheering “Eee! Eee! Eee!” and a piece of fruit is added to his seemingly bottomless lunchbox. If the child makes a mistake, monkey will shake his head with a solemn look on his face and say “Oh oh!” which let’s the child know they need to try again.
There is no ‘Game Over’ with Monkey Preschool Lunchbox as kids are repeatedly challenged by the fast paced, non-stop games, but the cycle of ever-changing activities still manage to keep them engaged. After the child has completed a few activities, they are then rewarded by picking a fun virtual sticker they can add to their collection.
This game is a favourite of the iChild (4) and the iToddler (2.5) but the iToddler seems to enjoy it more and I do feel it’s aimed more at his age group. He loves any activity that includes the ‘honeydew’ fruit as he can’t get enough of the way the narrator says the word, “Honeydoo!”. It didn’t take long for either child to learn how to use the game due to the child-friendly layout and simple functions.
With its vibrant colours, high quality graphics, playful music and funny acrobatic monkey, I have no hesitation in recommending Monkey Preschool Lunchbox. At only $0.99(AU), this app will pay for itself over and over again by giving your kids a valuable head start when it comes to learning these important skills before starting school. The kids are learning + mum gets five minutes to herself = win win!

My eldest enjoys Monkey Preschool Lunchbox as well as its companion game, When I Grow Up. He is 3 1/2 and has been playing it on and off for several months now. It’s very easy to use and he had hang of it fairly quickly. I like the easy number tasks as well as the task to find out which object is larger. It’s well worth its price as well.
