Memory Train by Piikea Street is a universal train based memory game with Spacey the elephant which teaches colors, shapes, numbers, and a “see what object is missing” game. Participants must look at the objects passing by and recall them (color, number, expression on an object, window on a house) to earn stars, badges and peanuts in the game. The train will move faster or slower depending on if you answer correctly or not allowing the person playing the game more time to see the object. To master each level you must earn six stars, and with advancing levels you are shown more objects to train your memory, up to four people can play the game at various times and there are ten different levels, with the option of going back to a previous level if you feel that it was not mastered. The app did not involve any language so this could be used almost anywhere and by anyone. This app promotes the use of fine motor skills and memorization of various objects.
I liked the fact that the train slowed down when items were missed allowing the player more time to see the object in place. I also liked that you could touch the objects as they went by, which helped to improve recall and gave the user additional points. I also really liked the background noises such as the screech of the train when you had a wrong answer, the gentle music as well as the visual cues from Spacey the elephant.
I wish that there was a way to customize it for children, because on the higher levels it was harder for kids to remember the objects since they were multi-part or even three parts and required you to not only remember the shape but the color as well.
This is a great app for anyone who wants to practice their memorization skills while having fun. It could be used with children to help them remember specific colors and shapes, as well as remembering longer sequences.
