Bizzy Bear on the Farm is a universal app from British book publisher and app developer Nosy Crow. It is based on their Bizzy Bear board book series and is aimed at 2-4 year olds.
It is a simple story about Bizzy Bear visiting a farm and all he gets to do there. There are ‘read to me’ or ‘read it myself’ options, and in the latter you can chose how long to leave the text on the screen. The pictures are bright and colorful; the narration is nicely done by a child, and the app is enhanced by realistic sound effects and lively background music.
The app is very interactive – you can walk Bizzy Bear through the app and make the characters jump and flip. Each scene has different activities for the child to do including feeding apples to the pigs, collecting eggs from the hen house, rounding up the lost sheep and driving the tractor to name just a few. Tapping on the characters also elicits more dialog. There are some fun musical elements too -such as making the ducks quack in harmony. When playing with the app children can practice their counting skills and work on their fine motor skills.
This app is definitely aimed at a younger audience than Nosy Crow’s hit apps Cinderella and the Three Little Pigs, but it was a big hit with my two 4-year-old testers. They really liked all the interactive elements of the app, especially doing all the farm jobs. Another app in the series – Bizzy Bear at the Building Site is in the works, and we are looking forward to it.
