Injini Child Development Game Suite by Injini and NCsoft is a collection of games providing learning experiences to children with developmental delays. The app has a “toy box” which includes 11 games – 10 feature games, plus the farm, which consists of 8 mini-games. The developer also plans to include more games in future as free upgrades. There are multiple levels per game. A team of game developers and early intervention specialists created the app with feedback from parents, educators and speech therapists. The app features a variety of games that help children play and learn at the same time, including using a frog to catch bugs, washing dirty pigs, completing patterns and puzzles and popping balloons of various colors and shapes. Skills practiced in the app include: fine motor, cause and effect, spatial awareness, memory, patterning, sequencing, differentiation and visual processing.
Our favorite games include the alphabet puzzles- they work on upper and lower case letters as well as various phonics sounds while completing puzzles. The farm activities were another favorite, especially interacting with the hatching chicks, growing plants and shearing the sheep. In fact, during a recent visit to the zoo, my son asked if he could help wash the pigs ! The tracing is also a popular activity –the pictures that appear after you finish tracing are great are at keeping the kids interest. The ability to continue from where you went outside the line instead of having to start over is also very helpful in preventing frustration.
This is a wonderful app, but there are a few things that we feel would make it even better. It would be wonderful have the option to mute the music while still being able to hear the audio instructions. Mary’s son would love to have another character to choose from in the find the object game as he says, “ I don’t like playing it as I don’t like the girl”. Another useful feature would be the ability to have data tracking for different students – this would be helpful to parents with multiple children and to therapists using this in practice.
The app has a lite version, well worth downloading which will help you gauge if this app is right for your family. In addition, there is a ten-minute video demo as well as a shorter one help to demonstrate the concepts of the game. For the purposes of the review, we used the app with a 3 year old and 4 ½ year old twins. Both sets of children found lots of new activities and the ability to practice skills within the app. This app would be useful for special needs as well as normally developing preschool children to help them practice core skills prior to starting kindergarten. Injini won the Editor’s Choice Award from Children’s Technology Review Magazine, which is given only to the highest quality children’s products in the interactive media category.
In summary we think that this is a wonderful, very high quality app, useful for both special needs and normally developing children. It works on many important skills in a fun and engaging manner. We do wish that the price point of the app was lower to allow more families to afford this wonderful skill building application, however the developers are adding more and more value to the app by adding new games as free upgrades.

Alison, the American iMum is from Massachusetts. She lives there with her two sons and husband. In their spare time, they enjoy playing outside, enjoying nature and of course testing apps and fantastic products on their devices. My older son loves technology and loves testing out the “latest and newest” apps and tech. I love sharing information about apps and products with others to help them make decisions without feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices.
