Toca Boca has just released a Monster version of its popular Toca Kitchen and it is FREE to download for both fans and fans-to-be! What is different in Toca Kitchen Monsters compared to the original version? It has the same dining table, same fridge and the same kitchen appliances but the place looks messy. There is less ingredients in the fridge (who finished the rest?) but a new food item has been added (what’s that?) and there are two different characters waiting to be fed.
We imagine that the 4 original characters (a boy, a girl, a cat and a cow) are done with their meals and have left the kitchen. Then appears two monsters who snuck into the kitchen and they find a hospitable host (you or your child) who just loves to cook and feed others. It’s time to cook and let’s join the monsters in playing and messing around with the food! See how the monsters react when you add too much salt and pepper onto their food. Feel the vibration of the blender when you use it on an iPhone. Explore every possibilities and you may discover something new about this toy.
Toca Boca apps always present us with many opportunities for discussions during the playtime. In Toca Kitchen Monsters, we talk about what food each of the monsters like or hate (does the food get thrown away?) and what are their preferred way of food preparation. What ingredients (and the number of portions) are needed? To cut the food before or after cooking, does that make any difference? Is blended food cooked? How do you know if the monster enjoyed your food? Why the monster doesn’t like a particular food? Will the monster like a food better if it is cooked differently? Is the monster’s food preference the same as your child’s? Let yours and your child’s imagination take over and there’s lots to talk about. We also liked the ability to use condiments to “season” to see if using different seasonings made the characters happy or sad. What happens when you use too much salt?
Read our review of the original Toca Kitchen for more ideas on engaging your child while playing with food. Don’t forget to also read the letter from the play designer addressed to parents (accessible from the opening page) on the inspiration behind the Kitchen series and read about a naming contest that is coming up as well.
Kids love monsters and they love mess even more (thank goodness it’s only virtual mess). Put these two elements together and you get a sure winner. By offering another free digital toy (the other being Toca Hair Salon – Christmas Gift), Toca Boca is sure to gain more fans. While most apps offer lite versions, Toca Boca developed a new version that even their current fans eagerly await to download (after midnight!). So if you have not tried a Toca Boca toy before, just go ahead and download this free app and explore the creative and fun world of Toca Boca!
Note : You can turn on a vegetarian food only option from the Settings of your device. Read the letter to parents for more information.
