Edsel McFarlan’s New Car from Apps by Auryn is based on the print book by Max Holechek and Darrell Toland, and is available in both HD (iPad only) and iPhone versions.
The App has read to me, read it myself and auto play options. The words are highlighted as it is read, and you can touch words to hear them, or touch objects to have them labeled. It also offers personalization – where you can record your own narration to the story and even change the text too if you wish.
Edsel McFarlan loves cars; in fact he is obsessed with them. He sees an ad for a new car in a magazine and orders it. It is a beautiful shiny red model car. He goes through the hundreds of pieces painstakingly putting it together. When it’s finally finished it is big enough for him to drive, and he sets off on a crazy journey demonstrating all it’s realistic features, and wrecking the car in the process. By the time he gets home it is just a pile of spare parts. Edsel decides it’s time for a new hobby!
This is a very simple story – some pages have only I line of text, others have none, however the pictures do all the talking – they are bright, vibrant and full of life. You can just see how much Edsel loves his cars (and later his rockets), and the scenes where he is driving the car are hilarious. The pictures are full of little details and we love to find new things each time. The option to personalize it is a great extra feature – you can even make the story about your child if you wish. My 5-year-old son just loves this app, and is in hysterics laughing when we read it. This will appeal to car–loving little boys (and girls) everywhere, highly recommended.
