ILuv Drawing animals has been a favorite app of mine for sometime and iLuv drawing people is one of my five year-old daughter’s current favorite apps. She will often choose to use this app during her iPad time, she loves drawing with the app and has equally as much fun decorating her creations after she has finished. She needed some help from me when she first started using the iLuv drawing apps but now can successfully use them all by herself (just asking me for help to save her completed masterpieces). I love the fact that she is using this app so much, as she has some fine motor challenges and using this app with a stylus is great fine motor practice for her and she just thinks she is playing !! Her on paper drawing skills have improved whilst she has been using the app too – I can see what she has learnt from the app generalizing in to her drawing on paper, and that is great to see. I like the fact this app has both fill-in and freehand coloring options. The free-hand coloring is great fine motor practice, and the fill-in coloring allows young children to easily produce great results. By breaking the drawing process down into small, simple steps this app makes it easy and painless for children and adults learn new drawing skills, and it is especially useful for children with special needs learning to draw.
Another feature of this app that can easily be overlooked is that it is a great stepping stone for using your imagination, whether in decorating your pictures or in starting with an image and turning it into something different. There is no ballet dancer in the app, but I very easily created one by using the ice-skater and giving her different accessories to make the ballet dancer shown here (and I’m no artist so it really is very easy !) Completed pictures can be saved in the drawing book, on the photo roll, emailed or printed via Airprint.
The app includes no in-app purchases, adverts or social media links. There is a “more apps” button on the homepage of the app which takes you to the appstore. I would like to see this removed or moved into a less accessible spot so children are not able to accidentally access iTunes.
As well as iLuv Drawing People and iLD Animals, the series also includes iLD Santa, iLD Monsters and iLD Dinosaurs so there is plenty of choices for everyone in the family depending on their interests. You can read our reviews of iLuv Drawing Animals and iLuv Drawing Santa . We have just downloaded iLD Monsters and iLD dinosaurs but I can see that these are likely to become favorites too.
Overall, I highly recommended both iLuv Drawing People and this whole series of apps. This app is a combination of a great drawing and coloring app with a digital version of paper dolls, as get you to dress and accessorize your completed drawings. It is great for working on fine motor skills, improving drawing skills, using your creativity and imagination as well as being fun! Another must have app from iLuv Drawing.
