Ten Giggly Gorillas by Graham Nunn is an iPad only app from Australian developer Wasabi Productions – creators of the Larry Lizard apps.
It starts with 10 gorillas hanging out in a tree in the jungle, and then counts them down from 10 to 1. Each page has fun rhyming text describing one of the gorillas, and if the child tickles the right one (who is highlighted) he/she will respond and laugh so much they fall out of the tree.
Picking the wrong one is just as entertaining, you never quite know what they will say! They might tell you you’ve got the wrong gorilla, tell you to try another or even make animal noises. My 4yo son finds it hilarious to pick all the wrong ones first just to see what they’ll say.
You can choose to read it yourself or have it read by an Australian narrator. It is also enhanced by (optional) jungle sound effects. There is a Toucan hidden on each page for the child to find, and these are pretty well hidden so it is a challenge! The app also includes a monkey matching game.
I would like to see an option to vary the level of difficulty in the matching game – it is currently set to 20 cards. It would also be nice to be able to switch off the hint button for kids who are getting good at listening to the directions on which gorilla to find.
This is a fun and engaging app that works on counting down from 10 to 1, as well as working on observation skills in finding which Gorilla to tickle, and finding the hidden Toucans.I like the interactivity and how the gorillas say different things each time you touch them, and my 4 year old twins enjoyed playing with this app.
Update: November 2012 all Wasabipro’s apps have just been updated to include text highlighting, and are 100% family friendly with no external links, and parental controls including the ability to delay animation to ensure engagement with the story.

Our favorite app is Bugs and Buttons!
We love Mindshapes’ Jack and the Beanstalk, which is meant for ages 6+, even though my son is only 3. It tells the classic story with more imagination and there are lots of fun things that happen when you tap on the screen and lots of good hand-eye coordination needed too!
Currently our favourites are the various Toca Boca games; robots, store as well as the bday party!
iMommy is a hit.
It’s a very close tie between Powder Monkeys & Where’s My Water?

My 2.8 year old daughter really likes this Caveman HD game, along with Subtracting Sardines, but her favorite book is 10 little monkeys, so she would <3 this app!.
Our favorite is Lego +4 with Bugs and Buttons a very close second!
Our kids love 123 Color. :)
Our face app is Monkey’s lunchbox
