The Berenstain Bears’ BIG Bedtime Book by Oceanhouse Media is a universal app that includes 6 stories within the app. All of the stories have read by myself, read to me and autoplay modes. The words are highlighted as the story is read and you can touch words to hear them and touch objects to have them named.
When Mama and Papa Bear go out for the evening Brother Bear, Sister Bear and Honey Bear are in good hands, as their favorite babysitter Mrs Grizzle looks after them. Mrs Grizzle always has a good bedtime story to tell, each one is her own unique take on a classic fairytale. Each tale is a story within a story, as you hear the tale of the bear cubs’ evening and you hear the bedtime story Mrs Grizzle tells them.
Little Red Grizzly Hood. This is the classic Little Red Riding Hood tale except the main characters (except the wolf) are all bears that have a remarkable likeness to the Berenstain Bears.
The Three Billy Goats Gruff Meet The Bogg Brothers. This is the classic Billy Goats Gruff tale, but instead of a troll living under the bridge the Bogg Brothers live there. The Bogg Brothers are the three meanest, scruffiest orneriest bears in Bear Country. The Bogg Brothers fancy some goat stew so plan to capture and eat the goats as they cross the bridge but the two smallest Billy Goats Gruff manage to talk their way across. The biggest Billy Goat Gruff crosses the bridge and when the Bogg Brothers go to capture him he puts down his big horns and butts them straight into the river !
The Three Little Cubs and the Big Bad Pig. In a fun twist on the classic three little pigs, the three little cubs set out to build their own houses- the first one makes his from candy, the second one from cake and the third one builds his from logs. The Big Bad Pig leaves his garbage dump and goes on the prowl. He eats both the candy house and the cake house and the cubs run to the third little cubs house so they don’t get eaten too. By the time he gets to the third house the Big Bad Pig has an awful stomach ache, and asks the cubs for medicine. They give him stomach medicine but only after he promises never to bother them again.
The Gingerbread Bear. In this classic tale Grandma Bear and Grandpa Bear bake a gingerbread bear who runs away. They chase him through the countryside, the woodcutter, the rabbit and the raccoon all join the chase. He comes to a river where a sly fox offers him a ride across, as the water gets higher he jumps from the fox’s tail to back to head and finally his nose, where snip, snap the fox eats him up (and the bear cubs eat the gingerbread bears they baked too!)
Goldibear and The Three People. In this twist on Goldilocks, Goldibear is a curious little cub who goes wandering, her mom warns her never to go past the forest borders because terrible creatures called people live there. She gets to the edge of the forest and sees a pretty cottage, she just can’t resist going inside. She tries their Cream of Wheat, their chairs and their beds before falling asleep in the Baby People’s bed. The people come home and find her asleep in Baby People’s bed- they running screaming to the police station whilst Goldibear wanders back home to the forest where she belongs. Sister Bear is scared of People but Brother Bears scoffs saying they don’t really exist.
The Little Red Hen. Mrs Grizzle has had a tough day babysitting, so she decides tonight’s bedtime story is going to be a quick one. The Little Red Hen is scratching in the farmyard when she finds some wheat, she asks who will help me plant this wheat? The duck, the cat and the pig all reply “I will”. The hen sits back while they all plant, cut and thresh the wheat. They take it to the mill to grind it into flour, and then bake bread for her. When it is time to eat it she asks “Who will help me eat this bread ?” and they all reply “Not I” because they are all allergic to wheat ! Brother and Sister Bear declare this the dumbest story they’ve ever heard!
