Chalk Walk by Mrs. Judd’s Games is an app designed to teach your child pre-writing skills using a variety of games. Users must complete each mini game with two or more stars out of three to earn their letters and advance. The app works on pinching skills which are necessary for holding a writing utensil. Essentially you trace a line and model a line while picking up letters along the way.
I would love to see an option included that allows your child to use a stylus especially in later sections of the app once you have covered some of the basic concepts because it can be difficult to stay on the line while pinching.
It also needs a redo button if you go off track while tracing the lines. Currently you must start over. I also found if you did not hit the red dot at the end perfectly sometimes you would get stuck and be unable to advance. I also felt like some of the later levels were very hard especially for younger children. I’d also like a child to be able to pick their own color chalk as I think this may help them feel more in control of their work.
The app helps practice fine motor, tracing, pinching as well as other skills practiced in occupational therapy. It is best suited to children age three to six who are practicing early writing skills.
