Thank you for participating our interview. Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Marina Litinsky. I’m a parent of a 2.5 year old beautiful boy and a co-creator of Goodnight ABC. I hold a PhD in Educational Psychology and have for many years worked with elementary school children in Texas public schools. I’m also a co-authors a children’s book called “Pineville Deerdevils”.
How did the idea for your app come about?
The creators of Goodnight ABC are my husband and myself, and ever since he was born our son has been the biggest inspiration in a lot of things we do and create. As a parent and educator I’m always looking for new ways to get children to learn. Most kids, on the other hand, are looking for ways to have fun. With Goodnight ABC there is no need to choose between one or the other. The whole philosophy behind our work is that LEARNING IS FUN. We want the child to be able to touch, feel, and experience things in order to learn. We want him to have fun and be inspired by the new and unexpected. That’s why in this app children kind try their hand in almost anything their little hearts desire and never have a dull moment while also gaining valuable knowledge. Fly a hot air balloon, make ice cream, shoot some hoops, milk a cow, shop in a swanky boutique, hatch a dinosaur egg. Anything is possible with Goodnight ABC!
And how long was the process from the original idea to the release of the app?
Creating Goodnight ABC took over a year. The ideas on how to make learning super fun for kids have been brooding for way longer than that.
Did you hire a developer or do it yourself?
A little bit of both.
What has been the hardest obstacle you have had to overcome in the development process?
Development is a time consuming and tedious process, but the end product fills your heart with joy!
Have you had much support during the development process (from family, peers, Apple Inc.)?
The family and friends have been fantastic. And we had a lot of kids to test the our App. They loved it!
What are your plans for the future? Will you be developing any more apps?
Absolutely. Goodnight ABC is the first in the series of fun educational app we have in the works.
What sort of feedback has your app been receiving so far?
It’s been heartwarming to receive such positive feedback from parents and reviewers. We are very grateful to everyone who got our app, and we are very happy to know that so many families all over the world enjoy it. Thank you everyone for giving us a chance and for taking your time to let us know your thoughts.
And finally, what advice would you give to anyone considering creating their own app?
Let you imagination soar, don’t give up, and have fun!
Marina, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us at The iMums today. We wish you and your husband much future success.
Alison, the American iMum is from Massachusetts. She lives there with her two sons and husband. In their spare time, they enjoy playing outside, enjoying nature and of course testing apps and fantastic products on their devices. My older son loves technology and loves testing out the “latest and newest” apps and tech. I love sharing information about apps and products with others to help them make decisions without feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices.
