San Francisco, CA, September 19, 2012 ― Curious Hat Inc.™(www.curioushat.com), a new provider of interactive and educational mobile applications, has announced the launch of their second app, PHLIP. Based on a simple 3-step – Snap. Shuffle. Solve – principle, PHLIP is an intriguing and addictive picture puzzle aimed at children and inquisitive adults of all ages.
PHLIP follows hot on the heels of Color Vacuum, the first of the Curious Hat apps, which launched in May of this year. Founded in January 2012, Curious Hat produces innovative educational mobile applications for iPhone, iPad & Android for curious kids and explorers from 3 to 9yrs.
Intuitive and easy to use, PHLIP is the latest application from Curious Hat inspired by the work of Professor Vapori, a scientist from the late 19th century. Curious Hat creates these curious machines to encourage children to explore and observe the world around them.
“The great thing about PHLIP is the ability to share your puzzles with others,” said Curious Hat CEO, Luca Prasso. “Although this is an app that can be played without adult supervision, it also stimulates great parent – child interaction.”
Each PHLIP challenge begins with a digital photograph taken by the player. The player then divides the picture into tiles, and follows this with a quick shuffle. The challenge is to re-assemble the picture by physically tilting the device. The complexity of the puzzle is in the hands of the player. PHLIP can be played solo or with others. Players can engage and challenge each other via email, by sharing puzzle photos, and the best number of moves required to solve these.
“PHLIP goes far beyond a simple puzzle, in that it stimulates visual research and critical observation, helping children to improve their hand-eye coordination, and their social skills at the same time,” added Prasso. “Although originally designed for children, testing has proved that PHLIP can be equally addictive for adults! This is an app which is very easy to use and a great stimulant for all the family.”
Curious Hat is the brainchild of Luca Prasso and Erwan Maigret, both of whom are parents and seasoned professionals from the feature film production and software development industries. Prasso and Maigret’s past film work, includes DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Shrek’ film series, ‘Madagascar’, ‘Kung Fu Panda’, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and ‘Over the Hedge’.
The Curious Hat mission is to create interactive and educational mobile applications that will stimulate children to interact with the real world, as well as fostering shared adult-child experiences.
