Fireman Sam by P2 Games – Review

  Review by Alison

What we love…

The various mini-games coupled with the interactivity help your child focus on core skills such as fine motor while having fun; illustrations are realistic and mini-games each have a different object.

What we’d love to see…

A way to turn off some of the sounds in the app without muting your device, especially the siren during the maze.  In addition, adding a simulated call to emergency services could help children realize what to do in case of a real emergency.

Summary

All in all this is a cute app especially designed for your favorite Junior Firefighter in your life teaching them skills like seek and find, fine motor and memory games all while entertaining him.
Our Rating

Fireman Sam - Junior CadetFireman Sam by P2 Games is a universal app designed for your favorite little firefighter.  The app features six mini games and is able to play along with the Pontypandy Fire Crew to earn their Junior Cadet certificate.  This app, which allows multiple players features: hose practice by filling buckets with water, hide and seek where you must find Norman and the objects he has hidden in the firehouse, load Jupiter where you match objects to the right location, firefighter where you use your hose targeting skills to put out a fire  after driving Jupiter to the fire location and my sons favorite an air rescue.  The app also includes a sticker album where players earn stickers for completing an activity.  The app practices fine motor, memory, object recognition and matching.

My son loves watching Fireman Sam and this app is a realistic adaptation of the show.  He enjoys finding Norman and his hidden objects as well as driving Jupiter through the maze to the pretend fire.  This is a great app to use to discuss fire safety with your children and couple it with the various adventures of Fireman Sam.  My four year old enjoys the app, and I have seen three year olds enjoy it as well.

I wish there was a way, short of turning down the sound on your device to turn off the siren in the fire truck portion of the app.  Listening to the siren over and over can get tiresome.  I would also like to see a section added to the app about how children should make a plan with their family during a real emergency and that they should not attempt to fight a real fire.  In addition, incorporating the calling of emergency services (by  use of a phone to dial) along with what to say could be a great adding.  Obvious, but important facts to discuss with your children.

All in all this is a cute app especially designed for your favorite Junior Firefighter in your life.   This app has given my four year old hours of fun while playing with his favorite fighters and he hasn’t yet realized he is learning at the same time!
