This is a great app for creativity and imaginary play. It is simple enough for preschoolers to use but still has so many subtle sophisticated elements that older children will enjoy it too. A must have app !
Our Rating
Toca Tailor is a universal app from the renowned Swedish digital toy maker, Toca Boca. With this app you can become a clothes designer making your own range of clothing like paper dolls from your childhood. This app takes creativity to a entirely different level with so many different combinations and the ability to create your own outfits from a variety of fabrics, accessories and prints. Be sure to check out their new website, Toca Tailor for favorites posted by Toca Boca, pictures will also be posted on Instagram as well. There have been over 16 million downloads of Toca Boca Apps since their launch.
There are four characters that you can choose to outfit- a girl, a boy, a lynx and a sloth. The character is in your tailors shop waiting for a fitting. When you open the app, the character is wearing a shirt and trousers, but by touching each part of their outfit you can redesign it. Touching the sleeves lets you choose whatever shape and length sleeves you would like, including no sleeves, similarly you can adjust the top length from a short bolero-style top to a full length dress. The trousers can be made into capris, shorts, a skirt, or disappear entirely under a dress.
Once you have the outfit the style you want it’s time to pick the material. There are a wide range of fabrics to choose from, you can rotate the fabric any way you want and you can layer the fabric or just add it in patches if you like. If there aren’t any fabrics that take your fancy you can take a picture of anything and turn it into a fabric or use any picture from your photo roll. Your child can even make an outfit to match their own by photographing the materials from their own clothes. There are also lots of embellishments for the outfits such as buttons, zippers, pockets, lace and even a Toca Boca patch. All of these can be resized to whatever size you wish.
Once the outfit is complete it is back to the tailor’s shop to pick accessories – there are lots to choose from including, hats, scarves, jewelry and shoes. The character will even let you know whether or not they approve your choices too! If at this point you decide something about the outfit isn’t quite right you can still easily change it. Once you are happy with the results you can take a picture of your character wearing your finished creation. There is still one more feature to go, and this one had our young testers in hysterics when they found it – you can use your iPad camera to pick any background for your character. You can take pictures of the stylish lynx next to your child, or the sloth in your living room or even the boy standing on the piano, your imagination is the only limit.
We would love to see a rack where we could hang up our favorite creations so that our characters could wear them or parts of them again. We would also love to see additional accessories as well like bags, backpacks, headbands and the like. All of these accessories could help build your characters to a entirely new level.
This app is really fun and gives lots of opportunities for creativity and imaginary play, and it has lots of opportunities for fine motor practice too. We think this app will appeal to a larger age range than many of the Toca Boca apps – its simple enough that many preschool children can enjoy it as a dress-up app (with parental guidance to teach them how to use it), but also sophisticated enough that older children will enjoy it too. All of our children ranging froom four to nine years old loved it and we thought it was really fun ourselves! Highly recommended! Toca Boca are known for their high quality children’s apps for creative play. Toca Boca sets the standard for the industry, and with the introduction of Toca Tailor they have just raised the bar even higher. Bravo Toca Boca!

Like everyone else has said we love Toca Boca apps here in my house in Israel. They are wonderful tools to help promote language for my 6 year old autistic son as well as fun for my 9 year old daughter.
