AirStash A02 by Maxell – Review & Giveaway

Reviewed by Alison

What we love…

the ease of use with this product, I was able to take it out of the box and start loading videos, movies and photos on it within moments. Compatibility with multiple devices across platforms such as Apple, Android, Mac and Windows as well as our Blu-Ray player.

What we’d love to see…

the ability to access regular wireless at the same time as using the Airstash. It would also be nice to have an alternative way of charging just in case you are not near a device with a traditional USB port.

Summary

If you need to add space to all of your devices, check out this handy solution from Maxell. You won’t be sorry!

Our Rating

Product DetailsIf you are anything like I am, you have more apps than space on your devices. I recently found out a great solution called Airstash A02 from Wearable and Maxell. This handy little device uses SD camera cards and wireless technology to make all of your device memories larger. Instead of facing the dreaded message when you try to load the latest app on your devices, you can load it onto the Airstash and play it back. I have successfully loaded movies, photos, music and apps onto the device and have been able to play them back wirelessly via my device. You can learn more about the device including technical specifications the types of files it will hold and devices it is compatible with to ensure yours will work. You can also read a press release we published about this product when I first got it to try out!

The device was very easy to use straight out of the box, I just inserted a blank camera card and plugged it into a USB drive on my computer and was able to start dragging over files and using it within 15 minutes. I did run into a challenge or two and contacted Maxell Customer Support via telephone and had a very positive support experience with a North American based customer service representative to help me out with my questions. They also have an online knowledge base as well as the ability to send an email to technical support or visit an online knowledge base with additional questions if calling is not convenient or you are outside of the United States. I also loved the versatility as I am able to take photos using my digital camera, and pull the card out, load it in the airstash and within moments pull it up on the bigger screen of my iPad or laptop to ensure I got the right photograph. A fully charged AirStash lasted me about six hours each charge, and was easily charged via a USB port, it would be nice if there was an alternative way to charge it just in case you are not near a USB port. I also loved that I could use it with my iPhone and iPad as well as my husband’s Android smartphone with the same media inside! Once you had content loaded, you opened up the Airstash App on your device and were immediately able to start accessing files and items loaded onto the device. When one flash memory card became full, I just created another. We made cards for specific items like photos, items for our son and items for ourselves which allowed for easy swapping out depending on who was using the AirStash.

The biggest con of this device is that if you have its own internal wireless turned on, you have to turn off all other wireless access which means you can’t get emails, surf the internet, or anything else that requires a wireless connection while the Airstash is connected. They are working to fix this in an upcoming update of the firmware.

If you need to add space to all of your devices, check out this handy solution from Maxell. We really enjoy using ours and it has made it much easier for me to have movies, new apps and photos on the go.

  1. Ian says:

If you update the firmware on the device you can access the Internet AND the airstash at the same time. I’ve been doing so for about a month now without an problems so I can browse the web at the same time as use the Airstash.

You can also use, if you have an iPad, the wall charger for that by pulling out the lead from the plug and inserting the airstash into it. If you switch off the airstash then switch it on again and hold the on button whilst you insert it into the charger, you can carry on using it whilst it is charging.
