What we’d love to see…

Compatibility with more pinball apps

Summary

The Duo pinball machine is fun for all the family – from 4 or 5 year olds up through adults. If you enjoy playing pinball on a real machine this is a fun way to relive that on your iPad. Pressing the buttons to fire the flippers and pulling back the plunger to send the ball flying feels remarkably like the real thing. Lots of fun!

Duo Pinball from Duo Games is a device to turn your iPad into a pinball machine. It is a plastic mount that holds the iPad and pairs with the it via Bluetooth. When you press the buttons or pull the spring loaded plunger on the Duo Pinball the flippers or plunger in the pinball game on your iPad operate.

The Duo Pinball machine takes 3 AA batteries, and is very easy to set up. It works with the Pinball Collection HD app (works with the iPhone version too, but not with other apps). Before you start you need to download the free Pinball HD app, this comes with one free pinball table (the Wild West), and once it recognizes your Duo Pinball 4 more tables are unlocked. The you slide your iPad into the mount (without a case on), and slide two buttons across to hold it firmly in place. You go into Bluetooth on your iPad setting and choose Duo Pinball, it will pair and you are ready to play. The five tables that are included are Wild West, The Deep, DaVinci, Snow and Jungle style. There are also six more tables available as IAPS (cost 99c-$2.99 per table). You can play the Pinball HD app without the Duo Pinball machine, but I think the Duo Pinball makes it a whole lot more fun.

When I was a kid I never had any real interest in video games, but I loved Pinball machines. Playing with the Duo Pinball machine really evokes memories of playing on a real pinball machine. The buttons and plunger really feel like the real thing so the iPad Pinball game no longer feels like a video game. I love that mechanical feeling of pulling back the plunger against the spring to send the ball off at just the right speed or flipping the ball with he perfect amount of pressure. You can also “tilt the table” by touching the screen. Although it is only compatible with one app it is a very good one with a wide choice of pinball table of different styles. It is also customizable- you can change the order of the tables, see the tables from different perspectives and also enable restrictions from within the app that lock access to tables that you choose (this also prevents accidental IAPS).

The Duo pinball machine is fun for all the family – all my family enjoy using it from my 5 year olds up through my husband and myself. If you enjoy playing pinball on a real machine this is a fun way to relive that on your iPad. Pressing the buttons to fire the flippers and pulling back the plunger to send the ball flying feels remarkably like the real thing. This is the iPad accessory I’ve had most fun playing with !  Definitely brings back memories of my mis-spent youth !
