Our Rating

I am far from a professional photographer but I absolutely love taking photos. I own my dream camera, a Canon EOS 500D, but unfortunately it is just a little too bulky to carry with me everywhere I go. Great photo opportunities usually happen when I least expect them so I grab the next best thing to my Canon which is my iPhone 4S. The iPhone does take great photos but the digital zoom is, well, pretty crappy. Several moths ago I looked into purchasing an iPhone lens kit but couldn’t really justify it because I didn’t think I would use it all that often. When Tibor of iPhoneLensKit.com.au contacted us to review his kit, I was super excited and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

The iPhone Lens Kit comes three different lenses including an 8x zoom Telescopic, a Wide Angle and a 180° Fish Eye, each with protective caps at both ends. Also included in the kit is a handy little aluminium tripod with phone holder and a hard case for the iPhone 3G/3GS/4G/4GS but not yet for the iPhone 5 (it’s on the way though). The whole kit comes in a package the size of an iPhone box which makes it easy to keep the contents together but for those wanting less bulk, the lenses and case all fit snugly into a neat drawstring bag, which also doubles as a lens cleaning cloth, but the tripod and holder do not fit.

To use the lenses, simply place the case by itself on your iPhone and screw in the lens of your choice onto the back over the camera hole. That’s it! For extra stability or to utilise a self-timer on your iPhone, just place the phone into the holder and screw it into the tripod. I had a ball experimenting with the kit and I was most interested in the telescopic lens but also had fun with the other lenses. I was quite impressed with the performance of the lenses and to give you an idea of how the photos look, here’s a few photos taken with the different lenses.

Grains of Sand (Macro Lens)

Orchid Flower (Macro Lens)

Distance Shot (Telescopic Lens)

Landscape Shot (Fish-Eye Lens)

Close Up (Fish-Eye Lens)

Priced at AU$120, the iPhone Lens Kit is a little on the expensive side but is the perfect accessory for serious “iPhoneographers” or just for those wanting to improve the quality of the photos taken with their iPhone. You can purchase the kit from iPhoneLensKit.com.au.
