Our Rating

Cook Happy – Recipe Videos By Demand Media, Inc is a collection of high quality cooking videos each showing experienced chefs preparing a dish. The videos are divided into themed recipe collection. There are four collections (a total of 23 recipes) included in the free app, two more collections (each of 5 recipes) are available as in-app purchases for 99c per collection.
When you enter the app you can browse through all your recipes, a specific collection or just the ones you have marked as favorites. The first collection I checked out was Easy Weeknight Dinners – these can all be cooked in 30 minutes or less, which as a busy mum I appreciate. The Ginger-Orange Beef Stir-Fry look delicious and I can’t wait to try it. The videos are accompanied by lively piano music, and there is no speaking. You see a chef preparing each step of the recipe while the ingredients are listed on the screen for that step. You can pause the recipe at any time and view a written recipe card containing all the ingredients and instructions and restart the video when you are ready. Having the video to watch is not only fun, but also helpful as if you are unsure what a term means e.g. chiffon basil (a new one to me!) you can see it demonstrated. Anytime when you are viewing a recipe you can mark it as a favorite. The videos are typically 4-5 minutes long so they are much quicker than viewing a cooking show. The videos require an internet connection to view them, but you can still read the recipe card when you are offline. As well as main courses there are also recipes for side dishes that go well with the main course, this delicious looking Red Pepper Hummus is part of the Mediterranean Dinner Party collection:
The included collections are: – Easy Weeknight Dinners, Sophisticated Comfort Food, Taco Fiesta and Mediterranean Dinner Party. Two more collections are available as IAP (99c each) Chic Desserts and Vegetarian Main Events. the recipes in each collection are designed to go well together so you can plan a whole meal using mains and sides from the same collection. I was impressed enough with the videos and recipes included in the free app that I bought the additional collections too. Watching the videos definitely makes you hungry and most of the recipes I’ve viewed look straight forward enough that I’m happy to tackle them. I do have a few items on my wish list for a future update : printable shopping lists, an easy way to resize the recipe in the recipe card section and more recipe collections. The developer says there will be more collections coming soon. If you like to cook and are looking for new recipes and inspiration, I’d highly recommend downloading this today.
