What we love…
delightful digital rendition of the story complete with the ability to record your own pages, bright illustrations and word highlighting to make it easy for early readers to follow along.
What we’d love to see…
“childproofing” of the bottom tray so that children can’t get into the recordings or iTunes links by mistake – the mechanism is already there but it needs to have additional safety added to it.
Summary
Delightful book for young children and their families to read together especially if family lives far away or children simply need reassurance that Mommy and Daddy will always love them no matter what they do
Our Rating

The popular children’s book, I Love You All The Time released by Cookie Bear Press has now become a digital book that you can read on your iPad. This delightful rendition has digital animation, ability to record your own pages, bright and easy to see illustrations. The app features word highlighting during the narrated portion of the app as well as a find and seek game for the I love you heart on each page. The bright illustrations and story were rhythmic verses which were soothing allowing you to read the book at bedtime without being overstimulated.
This delightful book is a great adaptation from the print version and is a big hit for toddlers and young children who may have family members that live far away or parents/caregivers who travel often. The ability for a person to record their own voice can be very reassuring to a young child who has not seen their parent or someone who loves them. There are many hidden animations in the book, but can be found by exploring the various pages – my son enjoyed playing with the quilt and computer screen as well as touching the various objects on the page. The app features a perfect amount of interactivity to read the book, without being too overwhelming for a child as you prepare them for bedtime or quiet time with the book. We also really liked the part at the end of the book when the mother bear was snuggling with the bear and reading a book. My son especially enjoyed seeing his name on the last page of the story. The simple verses and shortness of the book (7 pages) make it perfect for bedtime reading or even quiet time reading for your child. My son and I read the book several times when my husband was at a recent conference and he really enjoyed knowing that even though Dad couldn’t call him at a specific time that he would always love him and be able to read to him. The app is simply done, but provides a great value for the price especially as it includes the ability to record your own voice, listen to a stand alone song, view and touch the various animations as well as hear the story.
At the bottom of each page, there is a button that when touched brings up a pop up tray. This tray includes a settings page where you can perform a variety of tasks including a parental lock, record your own voice, explore the story page by page, play the “I love you song” – note this does also include a link into iTunes to purchase the song, information about the print book as well as the page arrows. I would like to see the settings to mute the music, mute text and the like moved to a double tap or something so that children could not get into these section. I really liked the “parental” lock switch in the app but wish that section was double tap so kids couldn’t turn it on and off as they wished. The app does have a link to iTunes for the song, but if you turn on the parental lock feature it is no longer accessible. I would also love to see the ability to show a picture of a parent and child on the last page where you can record the verse telling your child that you love them. It would be a nice surprise and way to remind your child that no matter what you will always be there for them.
This story is a delightful book for young children such as babies, toddlers and preschoolers and their families to read together in the evening. It is perfect for a grandparent to record or even a parent who will be away on a business trip to show them that they love them. This would also be a wonderful gift for a Mum to be so that she can share her voice with her child.
