What we love…
Gamepad adds physical buttons and directional pad (d-pad) allowing for hours of fun play!
What we’d love to see…
future version equipped with a joystick
Summary
This product requires you to provide an iPod Touch or iPhone which inserts into the cradle of the iCade and then you are ready for some “old” school gaming style!
Want to play video games, old school style using your iPod Touch or iPhone? Be sure to check out ION Audio’s iCade Mobile. This product allows you to insert your iPod Touch or iPhone 4/4s or earlier versions into a cradle which adds physical buttons and a directional pad allowing you to have fun gaming without using the touch screen. The rotating cradle allows for both landscape and portrait views of the action and it connects using wireless Bluetooth technology in your phone.
The iCade mobile works with hundreds of games including my favorite Frogger and is ergonomically designed to allow for easy game play anywhere! This product reminded me of my old video game controllers with a similar weight and feel with my iPhone inserted. For a full list of compatible games, you can check out this list provided by ION.
I really liked the feeling of the iCade Mobile in my hands and it was enjoyable in terms of gameplay. It really made my iPhone feel more like a portable video game rather than just playing using the touchscreen. A joystick version of the iCade Mobile would be a great addition!
Games costs are in addition to the cost of the iCade and there are lots of new games being released which are compatible. Another one of my favorites’ was Atari’s Greatest Hits!
