Summary
If you are looking for an easy way to make photographs, slides and negatives digital and you already have an iPhone this is a great device! I really had lots of fun taking photos of some of my favorite memories and being able to file away my photos rather than having to search through a shoebox when I wanted to find them!
Do you have lots of print pictures, slides and negatives in your house? We certainly do! I found a great solution to photograph all of my pictures, slides and negatives using my iPhone 4S with a device called Pics2Go from ION. The device provides an extremely easy way for you to create digital copies your favorite 4×6 or s3x5 photographs, negatives or slides using your iPhone 4/4s. It contains contains a photo booth with a slider tray where you load your photos and your iPhone securely clicks into it. Then using the built in camera you can snap photos of the photograph, slide or negative and they are automatically saved to your camera roll. You can do limited editing within the app, but you can also export the pictures for further editing. One of my favorite features is the ability to snap a picture and share it via social media such as Facebook and email. The photo booth has built in lighting using AA batteries which helps to ensure the color is consistent, and your camera is always in the same spot.
The process for using the device is really easy! For prints, simply load the picture into the iPics 2 Go photo tray, place the tray under the iPics 2 Go photo booth and take a picture with your iPhone 4/4S camera. You can save it to your camera roll. send it via email, share it via social media including Twitter and Facebook as well as edit it on the fly.
This device is really easy to use, and even my son was able to use it after I showed him how we put the photographs in. I am looking forward to using it to create digital replicas of family photos so that they can be more easily kept in the future. I also used it to take photos of negatives which I did not currently have print pictures of – the quality was fairly good and well lit from using the device.
I wish that you could put your iPhone into the iPics 2 Go without taking off the case – as it was a bit of a challenge to take mine on and off when I wanted to use it. It would also be great if it supported larger photographs – or had some sort of an adapter or way of doing that as not all of my photos were 4×6 size. I’d love to see it hold photos up to 5×7. I also found that the included photo editing software didn’t help me when I was trying to enhance photos – I typically took pictures of items and then uploaded them or used another photo editing tool to enhance my photographs. I also wished you could do more than one negative or slide at a time and that the quality was a little bit better – but loved the concept!
