What we love…

The “free play option” allows children to be creative and put trains where they want to which is unlike any other train app that I’ve used.  Cause and effect of putting trains in different places as well as simple counting.

What we’d love to see…

newsletter sign up removed from the front page of the app or somehow childproofed.     The counting in the app needs to either be consistent across all three scenes or all different.

Summary

If you are looking for a simple counting app for your toddler or preschooler who loves trains this app will delight.  The simplicity will make it easy for even the youngest to master the app with ease

Our Rating

123 Trains (123 Toys Series): COUNTING FUN with interactive TOY TRAINS for your iPad 123 Trains (123 Toys Series): COUNTING FUN with interactive TOY TRAINS  by New Breed Studio  is a simple iPad only app which helps your child with basic counting, cause and effect and fine motor skills.  This app is best suited for toddlers and early preschoolers due to the limited counting range.  The app features three scenes, a traditional train track at the countryside along with water, a water scene featuring a fish which becomes the track and a space scene.  The first two scenes count from one to five while the space scene counts from one to ten.

iPad Screenshot 4This app has fun elements to it beyond the counting including cause and effect of what happens if you do not put the train on the track and instead put it in the water.  As well, the space scene has space cars that link together which feels futuristic.  The “free play option” allows children to be creative and put trains where they want to which is unlike any other train app that I’ve used.
iPad Screenshot 5I would like to see the newsletter sign up removed from the front page of the app or somehow childproofed.  Although it just lets you enter an email which does require verification, it should not be accessible to young children.  The counting in the app needs to either be consistent across all three scenes or all different.  Due to the limited range of counting, I suggest a scenes with 5,10, 15.  I would also like to see the track circular or at least going down into a tunnel for the fish and space scenes as it appears to end randomly.
If you are looking for a simple counting app for your toddler or preschooler who loves trains this app will delight.  The simplicity will make it easy for even the youngest to master the app with ease.
