Tiny Countries by TapToLearn Software is new universal app which provides a non-traditional approach to a standard geography game. The app provides an adventure game for children featuring 15 missions over six continents, 75 different countries as well as a place to learn about different countries, capitals and famous monuments. This educational app has Tiny jumping on logs while answering questions, but if you get one wrong – watch out because you only get so many chances!
This app was bright and colorful and the questions were easy to read and engaging. I really liked that if you got a question wrong you were given a few “second chances” prior to having to start over with the trivia section for the particular mission you were on. The animation and graphics shown create an easy to recall way to find countries and learn about them, capitals, shapes and their neighbors all while playing a really great interactive game. The app provides positive reinforcement for correct answers and when you get an answer wrong you “fall” into the water but get up to three chances to redeem yourself before having to start a mission over again. It is also great that the app includes the ability to have multiple players so that each person can play their own missions. The app takes key concepts, digests them into bite sized pieces and then allows you to learn a little bit at a time which provides positive reinforcement as well as the ability to learn new concepts in a short period of time.
In terms of improvements in the app, it would be great to have a “hint” section for the moments when you are truly unable to answer a question. I also couldn’t figure out how to save progress from one device to another if I played on multiple devices. Perhaps this isn’t possible, but it would be great if it was. Having the ability to set questions easier/harder depending on skill level would be nice and provide a wider age range for the app as well.
This is a great app for elementary school aged children and older. We also had fun playing it as a family and trying to decide which were the correct answers. The interactive format made it fun across a variety of age groups and provided hours of fun.

Alison, the American iMum is from Massachusetts. She lives there with her two sons and husband. In their spare time, they enjoy playing outside, enjoying nature and of course testing apps and fantastic products on their devices. My older son loves technology and loves testing out the “latest and newest” apps and tech. I love sharing information about apps and products with others to help them make decisions without feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices.
