Today’s interview is with Dang Bui from Gau Family Studio. Please visit their website, Facebook and Twitter pages. We will be reviewing their app very soon so stay tuned!
Thank you for participating our interview. Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Dang Bui, graduated Marketing major at Drake University in 2012. I’m originally from Viet Nam, i came to US since 2007. My life is all about business. My first business started when i was 16. I opened a small vendor at Sunday Flea market and sold looked-alike iPod Mp3. From then, i started falling in love with Apple products. I bought my iPhone and i was amazed about apps. In 2010, I decided to do my first application about love. I’m romantic and passionate about love. The first app named “Gone with the snow” . i was inspired by a love story “Gone with the wind”. The app is about a guy waiting for his girlfriend in a snowing day. We, as “god”, have to use our finger to prevent snowflake to hit him… the app sale was disappointed, but i’m very happy because i made it for my girlfriend. We just celebrated our 3 year anniversary a month ago. Three year later, i decided to do another education app “Gau’s Adventure in Hawaii”
How did the idea for your app come about?
Gau means Bear in Vietnamese. My girlfriend calls me Papa Gau, so i think the idea began here.
And how long was the process from the original idea to the release of the app?
The process of making my app Gau’s Adventure in Hawaii is about 6 months.
Did you hire a developer or do it yourself?
Yes, when we did Gau’s Adventure in Hawaii, we had about 12 people working on the app.
What has been the hardest obstacle you have had to overcome in the development process?
it is the script. The original idea is way too different from what you see in the app now. Even i lived in US for 5 years but i couldn’t understand every aspect of U.S culture and jokes, so i hired an Oxford editor to help me out. We made a lot of adjustments and revisions to the app based on their feedback.
Have you had much support during the development process (from family, peers, Apple Inc.)?
Yes, i did use ReviewsForDevs service to help me get feedback from Parents. The comments were extremely helpful for us and helped us tailor the app to the needs of our users.
What are your plans for the future? Will you be developing any more apps?
We planed to release a whole series of Gau’s Adventure if we have enough supporters!
What sort of feedback has your app been receiving so far?
We have been getting good feedback in the iTunes store with 4 and 5 star ratings.
And finally, what advice would you give to anyone considering creating their own app?
Do what you love and passion about and dont give up until you complete.
Thank you so much for talking with us today and sharing a bit about your company. We really appreciated the chance to get to know you!

Love this app. Nice to hear from the developer, and that there could be more.
