Rain Design Inc. are based in San Francisco, California and known for their beautifully designed stands for Apple computers and iPads. Their iRest iPad stand was Best of Show Winner at Macworld in 2012 so I was very interested to see what new products they brought to MacWorld 2013. At Macworld 2013 they unveiled the iSlider – their newest iPad stand that is designed to be both very versatile and portable.

The iSlider is a very elegant design, when closed it is a gently curved, brushed aluminum wedge, with one black end; bringing back memories of the iconic first generation iPhone. Pulling on the black end reveals the black metal stand.
The stand has a series of ridges on the back that allow the stand to be used in 18 different position from almost flat for typing to upright for movie viewing. The more horizontal the stand position, the further the base extends out – keeping the stand stable even at very shallow angles. You can use the iPad in portrait or landscape modes and it works equally well with the full sized iPad and the iPad Mini.
All the parts of the stand that come in contact with the iPad have rubber pads on to prevent scratching, and extra rubber pads are included for using with an iPad in a Smart Cover or Smart Case. The base of the iSlider has rubber feet to prevent slipping.
It works with all iPad models released so far, including the iPad Mini. I have used the stand with iPads without cases and with ones in a variety of cases; it works well with cases that are not too bulky. The Trident Kraken, ZooGue Case Genius for iPad all work well, as does the Cygnett Enigma and Cygnett Workmate for the iPad Mini. The Lifedge and TRTLBot are too bulky.

The iSlider comes with a black leatherette carrying case. When it is closed it measures approximately 5.4” long, 3.” wide, and 0.85” deep at its thickest point. It weighs approximately 0.5lb (230gm).
I’ve been using this case regularly since I got it at MacWorld last month and have been very impressed with it. I love the aesthetics of the design – the simple elegant lines, brushed aluminum finish and simple raindrop icon are all very reminiscent of Apple’s own style. The iSlider is really well made and has quality written all over it. I love being able to just slip it in my bag and take it with me wherever I go. The stand is very stable at a range of angles and works well with both the iPad mini and the full sized iPad. If you are looking for a beautifully designed, adjustable, sleek, elegant, portable iPad stand, the iSlider is a great choice. Highly recommended.
The iSlider is available online from Rain Design Inc.’s website. RRP $ 49.90
