As a busy mom – I just can’t seem to keep track of everything in my day! I was excited to learn about a new app called Everythink for iPhone that has replaced my iOS calendar, iOS reminders, let me access my contacts, see a map and even let me surf the web all from within one app. Everythink was started in 2011 after Israel based founder Yair Grinberg felt that the huge potential of mobile platforms is underutilized by existing personal information management tools he wanted to see it organized by content and use versus the traditional method of type as is the current organizing structure in most planners. Be sure to check out our developer interview with founder Yair Grinberg and also enter to win an iPad Mini sponsored in part by Everythink! Everythink uses a new technology they call Drag-hover-Drop (DhD™) which allows you to move any data object into the planner portion of the app and you can move it with a simple finger touch between calendars, tasks, time slots as well as group them on top of each other.
I love opening up the app and seeing my dashboard of items. I can see my calendar with daily events, notes, maps, contacts, attachments and the web all in one spot. My favorite part by far is the calendar portion which allows you to have a “master” calendar as well as separate calendars for a variety of tasks including: work, home, events, appointments, children and puts them all into the master calendar so you can at a glance see where you need to be and when. One of my favorite features is when I set up an event within the calendar I can attach a contact to it, and then when I have time to look at it just before leaving for the event know where I am going and when I need to be there and even the ability to look at it on the map as I am walking out the door. I can also import a presentation from Dropbox, attach it to a time and then when I’m ready send it off again for the actual presentation which means I don’t need to carry a USB drive along. I also like the fact that the app integrates with my Google Calendar, Microsoft Exchange Calendar, Yahoo Calendar and others to present an all in one view.
Among things I’d like to see added to the app – the ability to more easily “import” data – currently it does support Dropbox which means I can write my grocery lists on the computer and then import them – but rather than importing on a line by line basis the import is of a collection of items. I have been told an iPad version is in the works which will be fantastic as it will take advantage of the bigger screen and sync from the iPhone to the iPad. I’d also like to see weather integrated into the app – this may be difficult due to localization but it would be a great enhancement.
A testament to my use of the app? I turned off my native iPhone calendar and reminder function and now just depend on Everythink to remind me of where I need to be and when. Trust me – download this while it’s on sale and once you get used to using it you will never go back!
