StampaToday’s interview is with Massimo Mauri of Ebooks&kids.

Thank you for participating our interview. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hello, I am Massimo Mauri co-founder and managing director at Ebooks&Kids I live in Milan, Italy and I am a father of three.

How did the idea for your app come about?

My co-founder (and wife) and I were on the beach with our 3 kids last summer and she was reading Steve Jobs biography by Isaacson. All of a sudden she realized that the market of these apps is worldwide and that, at least in Europe, the offer of “real” educationl app for kids was not so interesting and stimulating.

We went deep in the idea, reading analysis and studies and then decided to go for this project of e.publishing company for kids.

In our vision, we paid attention to the beauty of images and designs, to the variety and brightness of all colors and to the richness of peculiar sounds. This brings the kids to a playful and cheerful world: starting from what the kids enjoy, we would like to capture their attention to widen their knowledge, stimulating their brain to produce and organize new information.

Our saying is “playing means learning” that is worthy for every experience children live in their everyday life in a stimulating environement.

Our children play with tablet or smatphone. it is going to be more and more one of those experiences that contribute to their growth.

Parents have a very important role because it should be a moment of the day among a run at the park, sports and homeworks.

And how long was the process from the original idea to the release of the app?

We started building our team from designers and developper last october and released our first apps last May 7th.

Did you hire a developer or do it yourself?

We hired a team of four young italian developers.

What has been the hardest obstacle you have had to overcome in the development process?

The hardest obstacle was the fund-rising to develop the whole project.

Have you had much support during the development process (from family, peers, Apple Inc.)?

We had a strong support from our kids … great tester and “Advisor”.

What are your plans for the future? Will you be developing any more apps?

We are right now realising Wee Kids, our first family of 15 educational games apps, focused on children aged 5 and up. In the meanwhile, we are preparing the second group focused on children aged 2 – 6.

What sort of feedback has your app been receiving so far?

We are excited from the great reviews and comments our apps are receiving.

Some of our apps reached the top 100 in education and games/educational in several countries around the world. Our facebook fan’s page is above 62.000 likes.

And finally, what advice would you give to anyone considering creating their own app?

Hard work, high quality and … smiling!

Thank you so much for talking with us today and sharing a bit about your company.  We really appreciated the chance to get to know you!
