Dr. Panda engages children to do a variety of different tasks to fix items with realistic sounds, three dimensional graphics and the high five!
What we’d love to see…
more interaction with Dr. Panda while performing the fix it tasks
This is a great app for preschoolers and early elementary aged children to use who like to help people fix things.
Dr. Panda Handyman by Dr. Panda Games is the latest universal app for iOS featuring Dr. Panda as he fixes of household objects that seem to have mysteriously broken through 14 mini games. The app is designed for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school children. The app is a great one for children to practice fine motor skills as well as naming and finding objects and tools.
One of our favorite features of the app was fixing all the different objects around the house and the realistic sounds of the tools as they worked. We loved that the tasks varied so you were not always doing the same task over and over again. My son also loved giving high fives to Dr Panda for a job well done! The three dimensional graphics in the app were animated and we saw familiar characters from the other Dr Panda apps and were very engaging for our testers. We also liked the reward system which gave you a choice of a sticker upon completion of a mini game to signify a job well done! My son also liked knowing that he was fixing things so he could help daddy in the future – although we were carefeul to explain that he should never use tools by himself. I also liked the integrated child lock which requires parents to tap on it a specific (random) number of times in order to gain access to external links – in here you can turn off the promotional screen which does lead to iTunes. Great way to practice speech and fine motor skills while using the app. We also enjoyed finding some of the hidden games like hanging the picture and picking our favorite one in the room with the fishtank.
I would like to see additional mini games incorporated within the app, there are currently 13 that we’ve found but would love to see some outside as well. It would also be nice to see Dr. Panda doing some of the actual tasks within the app rather than just seeing the tools and performing the tasks yourself.
This is a great app for preschoolers and early elementary aged children to use who like to help people fix things. My son enjoyed playing with it and practicing fine motor and speech skills while naming the tools and explaining what they did. This is another great addition to the Dr. Panda library of apps. The app is currently on an introductory sale – so be sure to grab it before the price goes up! You can turn on and off the music and sounds inside the parent lock area if your kids find them distracting.
Alison, the American iMum is from Massachusetts. She lives there with her sons and husband. In their spare time, they enjoy playing outside, enjoying nature and of course testing apps and fantastic products on their devices. They have a variety of devices including an iPad, iPhone, and an iPod and is often found with a device! My older son loves technology and loves testing out the “latest and newest” apps and tech. I love sharing information about apps and products with others to help them make decisions without feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices.
