The Water Sherpa is one of a line of iPad case with carrying straps from South Carolina based Sherpa Carry LLC. The case is designed for the iPad 2 and 3, and is water-resistant, not waterproof.
The main part of the case is made from an Olive Green water-resistant waxed cotton and it has a brown faux-leather trim and soft black lining. When I first saw the Water Sherpa my immediate thought was “it’s a Barbour jacket for an iPad.” (If you aren’t familiar with them Barbour is a very old British company famous for it’s waxed cotton jackets, even the Queen has been known to wear them, the classic color combination is dark green with brown trim). After using it for a while I still think of it that way- it has a classic style that is practical rather than high fashion, but still retains an air of class. The style is definitely masculine enough for a man to use it, but not so overwhelmingly masculine that a woman wouldn’t use it too.
The case is easy to fit – you just lift a flap and slide the iPad into place, and close the flap with Velcro. The case covers the back of the iPad and the front is also covered when the case is shut. The cover has a snap to keep it firmly closed when the iPad is not in use. It has a magnetic on/ off that is activated when the cover is closed, I found this worked well if I used the snap (as it helps to line up the magnets), but could be a bit temperamental if I didn’t. There are three brown strips running across the inside of the front case cover, and the iPad rests on these to give three different viewing angles. The most upright position is good for movie viewing but not very stable if you are tapping the screen a lot, the two lower ones are quite stable even with typing.
The strap is adjustable in length and is detachable, it is attached to metal D-rings by hooks with swivels so they turn easily to keep the strap comfortably flat on your shoulder.
This is a case I would recommend for use by an adult or older child, it is protective enough for ordinary wear and tear, but not for a child likely to throw or mis-use the case. The Water Sherpa is a good option for an adult who uses their iPad on the go a lot; it looks professional, provides an easy way to carry the iPad with easy access, and gives a choice of three viewing angles. The cases retails for $39.99 and is available from sherpacarry.com, Amazon and other retailers.
