Multiple Choice Articulation by Erik Raj – Review and Giveaway
Eric x. Raj is an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist. He has thre apps, a blog and free online workshops on his website www.erikxraj.com
Have you ever played the game Would you Rather? This game is set up the same way. This application has over 500 multiple choice questions that target following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH. Once the sound is chosen you choose initial, medial, final or blends (s/r/l).
A question is presented that gives two options. The person chooses one choice and must also provide an explanation of why they made that choice. At first my students were quiet and reluctant to answer but once I did a few for them they laughed and giggled. This app is requested by them a lot as they love the funny combinations!
There is an option to have the question read to them and an option to hear an answer. I haven’t allowed them to use the answer button because I have a few who would just agree, but using the recorded answer and providing your own answer would help the children see that there can be more than one answer. I try to encourage them to answer differently when possible to emphasize that there can be more than one right answer as long as they can say why they chose that answer.
I would love to be able to add more scenarios! Some of my students need to start slow with easy choices and move into the more bizarre choices.
Overall this is a fun app that encourages open-ended answers. This app works on developing decision- making skills as well as making speech therapy fun. I would like to see some new scenarios for other sound groups and built in data collection.
This is a universal app and requires iOS 4.3 or later. It currently costs US$4.99
