Strawberry Shortcake and her friends are back this time for Strawberry Shortcake Berryfest Princess of Berry Bitty City. The app includes a story, tea party, croquet game and coloring pages as well as interactive dress up within the story. The story is about the Berryfest Ball and a special contest to find the hidden berry crown will be the princess who plans the magical ball.
Each page has interactive elements with sparkles to encourage readers to become involved with the story and help children immerse themselves into the story. Each of the princesses imagined themselves as being the one to plan the magical ball and riding in the royal carriage. Cherry Jam and Strawberry Shortcake spot the crown at the same time and have a game of croquet to decide who will be the princess. Although Strawberry wins, she decides to ask her berry best friends to help her plan the ball and together as a team they planned the ball including putting together the carriage, selecting the music, making dresses for the princesses to wear to the ball, and then a dress up game allowing the reader to dress up Strawberry Shortcake and her friends Lemon Meringue, Orange Blossom and Plum Pudding.
The dress up activity allows the user to select a dress, accessories like gloves, a tiara, shoes for each of the princesses and provides another opportunity for the reader to interact with the story. Once all the girls were ready, everyone got a chance to ride to the ball in the Royal Carriage since they had worked as a team to put together the ball.
The app also contains a grown up’s corner which connects common core learning standards to the story and allows children to think about and talk about the story.
Other games within the app include Word Croquet, where you portray Strawberry Shortcake and hit a croquet ball to finish the missing word which is spoken and then spelled out for the user. There is also a painting portion of the app which brings to life the ball and the planning stages through drawing using crayons, markers, stickers and spray paint to re-enact the story.
The final mini game is a tea party game where Strawberry Shortcake has to set the table using a tablecloth, cups, and plates as well as making juice for the tea party and passing out desserts. After the food is “eaten” with your finger, and the tea is sipped with your finger the tea party is over.
The app has a parent lock for the “more apps” which does lead to the iTunes store but requires a year of birth. The for parents section has a similar lock and contains external links as well as activities that can be done to support additional learning.
This app is currently on an introductory sale for only $0.99 instead of $1.99 through this weekend, so be sure to use our button to grab it before the price goes up!
