Tiny Fairy Maker is a universal app from Australian developer Tiny Twiga Studios. With this app young girls and boys can create their own fairies and then use them for off-iPad activities – coloring and making cards. The app is child safe with no adverts, social media or in-app purchases, it has a locked parents section which contains all external links.
To start playing the child first chooses one of four fairy friends, then they have 8 different ways to personalize them leading to 1,000’s of combinations. Each item is a drag and drop to dress and personalize their fairy. They can choose from 10 different hair colors (each of the 4 fairy friends has a different hairstyle and different pose). The fairy’s clothes are made from different flowers and the child can choose from 10 different flower-inspired tops and 10 skirts, they can pick a matching outfit or mix and match to create their own style. There are also hair accessories, wings, wands, and shoes to choose and the final touch is something for her to carry- a cake, bird or butterfly. Once they have made a choice in all 8 categories they can press a green check mark to save their fairy. Up to 50 different fairies can be saved in the gallery at one time.
My daughter, aged 7, enjoyed creating her fairies but her favorite activity was getting to color pictures of the fairies she created. You can choose any fairy from the gallery and choose to turn it into a picture, birthday card, blank card or party invite. There are 2 options – you can print it how it was created, so it will print in full color or you can print it as a black and white line drawing that you can color. When you choose which format and which kind of picture or card it will save to your camera roll that way so that you can print from there.
I do have an Airprint printer so tried printing directly from my camera roll but discovered it was set up to print on photo paper as 4×6″ when printing from my camera roll which wasn’t what I wanted (I’m sure its possible to change the printer settings but I’m not sure how!) For me the easiest way was to mail the picture from my camera roll to my computer and print from there where I could easily change the picture size etc.
My daughter really loves coloring pictures of fairies she has created (I printed them on 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper). I like that it encourages off-iPad activities too, I would love to see an option for the child to name her fairies and an option to play with them within the app too – maybe using them to decorate picture scenes within the app.
Overall, a fun creative app for the little fairy lover in your family, Tiny Fairy Maker allows them to create fairy friends within the app and to color them off iPad with pencil, crayon or paint and paper.
