Our Rating

Dr. Panda's Mailman Dr. Panda’s Mailman is a universal app for iOS that features the post office!  This app features the ability to make and address your own postcards, pick a gift to package up for delivery including wrapping and delivery.  The app features a variety of animals, including a pig, the turtle (Toto)  we saw in Toto’s Treehouse, a monkey, elephant, sheep, hippo, cat, raccoon, elephant and more for a total of 12 animals!  After designing your package, Dr. Panda is off on an adventure to deliver your mail.  The stamp on the package or postcard helps him know where to deliver it and it’s placed into Dr. Panda’s scooter to deliver it.  The world includes rivers, forests, mountains and houses along with jumps, roads, road signs and more!  This app is best suited for preschoolers and early elementary aged children.  Skills practiced can include language, motor skills in coloring and driving the scooter, listening to directions.

We loved the visual watercolors and effects within the app.  As Dr. Panda paddles, there are leaves in the air, people saying hello, telephone booths ringing, birds playing, rivers flowing and more.  It’s a huge sensory experience both for the eyes as well as playing within the app – almost to the point that sometimes you might be delayed in delivering the package!  The app is easy to use and requires a light finger tap and hold to drive the scooter and transitioning to each of the different worlds is easy via bridge with a variety of other fun activities including jumps included.  The app does feature a squirrel who can help lead you in the right direction as well – a nice feature if your child begins to get frustrated about trying to find the right animal.  My son loved jumping and flipping the scooter, touching the tree to make the leaves fall and most of all the role play of being a mailman.  My son loved the autumn world although the seasons do change as you continue to play.

In terms of enhancements, I do wish that you could carry multiple packages or letters to deliver to the animals.  My son kept trying to figure out how in the app when it had a preview he could carry three packages but in the actual delivery he was only able to carry one.  We  also found that at times the clear “stamp” for the postcard was hard to find after it was licked making it difficult to finish it and execute the delivery in the world.

There are no in-app purchases or third party ads.  A promotional splash screen can be turned off in the parental locked area.

Overall. this app is a great addition to the Dr. Panda suite of apps, it’s a fun colorful app with no rules that will have your kids pretending to play postman for hours.  It can be used for imaginary plan, help locating things like find a fishbowl, put it in x box and deliver it to monkey.  This is best suited for preschool through kindergarten/first grade age level.

Alison, the American iMum is from Massachusetts. She lives there with her two sons and husband. In their spare time, they enjoy playing outside, enjoying nature and of course testing apps and fantastic products on their devices. My older son loves technology and loves testing out the “latest and newest” apps and tech. I love sharing information about apps and products with others to help them make decisions without feeling overwhelmed with all of the choices.
