Dr. Panda Town: Pet World by Dr. Panda Games – Review

Dr. Panda Town: Pet World by Dr. Panda is a fun themed pet addition to the Dr. Panda series of apps featuring Dr. Panda Town. Each area of the app had fun twists and turns and I was able to encourage language. We did this by telling my kids to count, describe what you see, tell me what colors are there while they played as live narration. There are over 30 characters, five action locations, four theme park rides, hidden surprises found by tapping, and full of free play!

What we love…

fun areas for kids to explore and learn about animals with no rules, ability to use language to describe what they were seeing and doing as well as encouraging exploration.

What we’d love to see…

more costumes to dress the animals up in, ability to better take care of animals rather than just a band aid or an IV that runs out in the veterinarian

Summary

Much like other Dr. Panda apps, my kids enjoyed playing with Dr. Panda Town: Pet World – they had so much fun tapping, exploring, hatching new animals and bringing them to other Dr. Panda Town locations.

Our Rating

The Dr. Panda Town: Pet World app features a variety of areas you can visit, note some of these areas are gated and require an in-app purchase (IAP) to be able to access them.

A fun concession stand where you can make water, drinks and other concessions as well as my personal favorite cotton candy which changed colors as you made it. My kids loved that too! There is ice cream, a Ferris wheel, carnival games and other great fun options.

Magic Castle: Be sure to tap on the train which is your gateway to the magic castle! The train brings you further inside the app inside a castle where you can cast spells, dress up and more. There are a variety of props including a throne, books, music, moving animals, a playing harp and more! Don’t wake the sleeping giant!
Enchanted Café: Hatchery (cleverly disguised as a “tea house” where you can find, sort eggs and hatch new pets from eggs by tapping on them and placing the eggs inside a matching color flower. Each time you get a fun new addition to the app!
Veterinarian (pet hospital) where you can scan your pets using an x-ray, give your pets a swim, give them procedures, brush them, do minor surgery, examine a heart and lungs and even dress up your favorite Dr. Panda people characters as veterinarians. Outside there is an ambulance and wheelchair to transport your pets to the clinic.
Travel station where you can get a passport, have packed bags, see times in different places – I also loved that Dr. Panda showed both NY and Beijing on the clocks and that they would move around in sync. My older son is learning about various time zones and thought this was a fun feature as well as the ability to open luggage. In the next room over there are a variety of animal habitats including a fish tank, various animal food available from a vending machine, collars and other pet habitats. My kids loved putting the dog in for a nap, playing with toys as well as opening and closing all the doors of the habitats. Outside there is a small park compete with the fixings for a birthday party including cake which you make in a muffin pan and sprinkles! Pets and humans could take a swim in the bone shaped pool and have a variety of meals poolside from the concession stand. Furry friends could also play in the mud puddle and then go for a swim to get clean.

One of the great things about Dr. Panda Town apps including Dr. Panda Town: Pet World is that when you buy each individual app you can navigate within the apps using an included map and bring your pets to other Dr. Panda town locations. I loved the variety of objects to touch, explore and play with within the app. My four year old is really into pretend play and enjoyed being a veterinarian and helping the animals as well as adopting new pets. My older son liked the carnival, hatchery and train. Dr. Panda apps have no rules and that made this all the more fun for my kids who could explore each of the individual areas as they wished without having to play a game or move on before they were done. We have all of the other Dr. Panda Town apps and my kids loved bringing the animals on vacation, to the mall and more! They even went shopping at the mall with their new pets in hand!
In terms of improvements, in the vet shop, my son struggled a bit to get the IV to work – I’m not sure if it was meant to just flow water out or if it was supposed to make the pets move around as they felt better. My kids also wanted animal specific items to help them feel better along with a way to clean the fish tank! Using the bandages if you tap on them it makes a bandage, but it won’t let you wrap a leg. My kids also wanted a section where they could dress up their favorite pet, inside the mall are a variety of costumes, but not necessarily ones appropriate for pets. They wanted Halloween or holiday themed costumes or even clothing to depend on the season like a coat.

The app has in-app purchases where you can unlock all three areas for $3.99 USD. The app has no advertising except for their own Dr. Panda games which are protected via a parental gate.

Overall, Dr. Panda Town: Pet World another great add to the Dr. Panda app collection. My kids and I enjoyed playing with it and testing it out. I loved the variety of things you could do within the app as well as all of the various interaction’s kids could do and explore. The first time my four year old played with the app he spent 30 minutes just inside the veterinarian swapping out each character and tapping on things!

Mobo Kids Puzzle World by Mobo Kids – Review

What we love…

Mobo Kids Puzzle World is brightly animated geography app designed for the youngest of learners which teaches shapes, colors, famous sights and listening skills

What we’d love to see…

ability to interact with the pieces more after they are placed or the country is finished.  Ability to have language within the app or allow a parent to record the names of the different places and countries using the microphone on their device.

Summary

Overall, Mobo Kids Puzzle World is a fun way to introduce kids to world geography at a young age.  The bright interactive colors, puzzle matching and sounds keep them engaged and learning within the app and wanting to play more.

Our Rating

Mobo Kids Puzzle WorldMobo Kids Puzzle World by Mobo Kids is a universal app for iOS and Android that lets your kids explore the world using only their fingertips.  Mobo Kids is a Polish app designer . Mobo Kids Puzzle World is free with a one time in-app purchases of $1.99. The app has children engaged in a variety of ways using bright colors and animation to encourage them to complete tasks.  There is also a soundtrack to the app as well as the various sounds that are played when tasks are completed.  The app reminded me of using an atlas with various countries you could fly to.

When the Mobo Kids Puzzle World opens, your child is an an airplane and they fly to different countries.  once you arrive to the destination country, you are presented with puzzle pieces which you drag and drop match up on the screen.  As you correctly place the puzzle piece a sound and typically an animation are played.  Once you successfully place the piece, you then are moved to another spot in the same country for another puzzle piece.  For example in Canada, puzzle pieces include a lighthouse, a beaver and a piece of wood being chopped. The items shown are local landmarks or things that a country is famous for.  There are approximately seven pieces per country.  When the country is completed, the national anthem plays and you can fly to your next destination.  The app is designed for preschool aged children through early elementary school.  Skills practiced within the app include shapes, colors, problem solving, listening and learning about different countries.

Mobo Kids Puzzle World

Mobo Kids Puzzle World is a fun and educational game.  I enjoyed playing Mobo Kids Puzzle World with my preschooler and while he placed the pieces I described the items like a Double-Decker bus, Big Ben, rainbows in the UK or a hot air balloon and cheese in France.  TMobo Kids Puzzle World is bright, colorful and engaging for kids.  Each scene includes three different pieces one of which matches the shape in the background. Puzzle pieces are large, easy to drag with little fingers and match up.  My son had limited frustration with Mobo Kids Puzzle World– only a few times when he wanted to pick what he thought should go instead of what the actual match was.  As a parent, I liked that it was educational and included some basic geography, flags, famous sights in a specific country.  My son especially liked being able to choose which country he would fly to – and then telling me about what he saw.  For example, if he struggled with a piece I would tell him to find a piece which had specific colors to make it easier for him to find.  His favorite puzzle pieces were cars – I think that’s because they drove and he loves all things that move.

In terms of enhancements, Mobo Kids Puzzle World does not have any language in it.  That means that the different landmarks/puzzle pieces, country name and anthem are not spoken aloud.  For children who may not be able to read this is something that the developers should consider changing in the future.  Another option would be to allow parents to record the names of the landmarks or country name for kids as they play.  My son also wanted to go back and tap the completed country – but after you fly away from the country it resets and you have to fill it in again.  Another fun enhancement might be a passport that is stamped after you visit each country to signal that you have completed it.

Overall, Mobo Kids Puzzle World is a fun way to introduce kids to world geography at a young age.  The bright interactive colors, puzzle matching and sounds keep them engaged and learning within the app and wanting to play more.  There is no advertising contained within the app except for parental gated links to the developers other apps. The app is free with a $1.99 in-app purchase for the entire app.  Currently, the country of France is free.

My Pets: Cat & Dog For Kids by Knbmedia – Review

400x400bbMy Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids by Knbmedia is a kids app that encourages the use of observation to find a variety of animals in the house, park, garden, and garage.  The app first prompts you to find the animal, and then you scroll with your finger to locate it.  The app tells you what to look for such as a goldfish, then shows a picture of the item.  Once you tap on the item it pops up a card which shows a larger version of the item in a card format and allows you to hear the items name in a variety of ways: English, French, Spanish, to record your own voice. When you find the animal an image pops up on the card and the head or in some cases the body moves.  In the version of the app I tested, I tested both My Pets and My Pets 2.

What we love…

fun animal themed game that encourages kids to use perception and finding skills to find the animal within the app

What we’d love to see…

animals that are a bit more of a match in the app to the item pictured

Summary

My Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids is a fantastic early learning game which encourages kids to find an animal using visual perception, then hear the name and follow up games are included like an animal album, jigsaw puzzle and additional modes.

Our Rating

My Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids keeps track of animals that you find, and after you find all of them, they are placed in a booklet which is called a card.  After finding all of them, you can print a booklet to show all of the animals which can be sent via email, direct printing via Wi-Fi and file sharing.  For the email option, it does pop up an email, but you can’t go beyond that.  For the direct printing a printer icon shows up.  The app allows for multiple modes perfect for younger and older kids, as well as letting you pick your specified language for spoken instructions and animal names.  That is protected by a parental gate.

My Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids includes 48 animals total.  Gameplay is multi-lingual and you can find the animals on your device, take their photo, create a jigsaw puzzle, take a quiz or watch a video.  Animals range from cats and dogs to birds, hamsters and rabbits.  In the My Pets 2 world, animals include a hedgehog, turtle, koi carp, horse, spider.  After finding all the animals, you can take a photo of the animals in the house (using an integrated camera – nothing is saved in the camera roll) and once you take 12 photos a surprise awaits.  There is also a game that tells you it’s almost nighttime and you have to find the animals using a night light – at first they are in a specific area then you have to scroll in the dark to find the animal.

As a parent, I liked that My Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids encouraged kids to find an item and then let them listen to what it was called.  My younger son didn’t turn the wheel to hear the animal name pronounced in many ways, but my older son did.  I also liked that kids were guided a bit if they went the wrong way and didn’t get frustrated at trying to find an item.  I also liked that My Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids was an app kids could play multiple times without repetition and there were new activities they could earn like the printable album, the ability to take photos of the animals or a jigsaw puzzle.  A visual reminder at the top showed a camera filling in as progress toward the next milestone activity.  For example, when you take a photo it gives you a fact about the animal and then saves it to the game. The jigsaw puzzle has you “shake” your device after taking a photo which means that you can get a puzzle that’s either 4/6/12/20 pieces and the longer you shake it the more pieces.   I also liked the multi-user setting as well as the ability to set the difficulty which ranged from easy, to difficult with varying levels of cues that were provided.

In terms of enhancements for My Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids, sometimes the animals didn’t always look like the item that was on the screen telling you to look for it.  One example is the Maine Coon Cat which was pictured as an animated white cat, when you tapped on the cat a more accurate striped cat was shown. My younger son didn’t always like the head movement of the animals when they were found – I’m not sure why because he couldn’t tell me why he didn’t like it at first but once he used the app a bit he got more used to it.

My Pets: Cat & Dog for Kids is a fantastic early learning game which encourages kids to find an animal using visual perception, then hear the name and follow up games are included like an animal album, jigsaw puzzle and additional modes.   The app is free with IAP for My Pets World 2.  There are additional worlds listed as well with the note” “coming soon”.  The app includes appropriate parental gates and no advertising.

Dr. Panda Town: Mall from Dr. Panda Games – Review

What we love…

fun interactive mall that has a number of great activities for kids to play ranging from hair, dress up, cinema, food court and more!  Lots of great role play and language activities to describe the scenes.

What we’d love to see…

ability to add photos in the app to the camera roll, also more “boy” themed dress up and characters like a security/police officer

Summary

Overall, this is a super fun addition to the Dr. Panda suite of apps.  There are lots of new adventures to play with Dr. Panda friends and my kids spent hours inside the mall.

Our Rating

Get ready to shop until you drop!  Dr. Panda Town Mall the newest app from Dr. Panda Games is a free app with IAP for the full game.  Inside the mall there are six different locations to visit on three floors including a cinema, pet store, food court, hair salon, clothing store, toy store and even a place to snap a selfie!  This app features the traditional Dr. Panda characters and now adds some fun children to the mix.  Game play is simple – open ended role play which allows your child to go through the mall picking and choosing from their favorite activities with no rules – just fun!  There are sixteen different characters you can choose from within the app which means everyone has a chance for fun!  You can even open and close the shops by a simple tap.  You can read more reviews of previous Dr. Panda apps here.  I also helped my son narrate as he played which let us practice language, naming items and more!

Inside each of the shops at Dr. Panda Mall there are different activities that you can do and when you have finished you can use Dr. Panda money from the ATM to pay for your services, a crane game to try to get a favorite toy (how i wish the real life one was this easy!), a bouncing car, an interactive fountain and lots of fun elements to tap and touch!  There are also a wide variety of interactive elements including wrapped gifts (and the ability to wrap you own), a restroom and more!

Hair Salon: Activities in the hair salon include: styling hair, coloring your hair, washing your hair, getting a quick snip/.style, having a drink and reading a magazine.

Cinema: Buy your ticket and head into for a show.  The cinema features three different movies and a variety of activities including: getting a drink, snacks at the concession stand, picking up your 3D glasses and even trying on fun costumes while you wait for the movie to start!

Food Court: Hungry for a snack?  Simply hop on the escalator up to floor three and you can get your character their favorite snack.  Items range from coffee/juice to muffins, rolls, sandwiches, smoothies and more.  My younger son loved making his own smoothie.

Pet Store: Head inside the pet store to play with a variety of animals including a hamster, kittens and lizards.  You can also buy pet food, carriers for your pet, accessories and more!  A favorite of my son was dressing up the animals in the pet shop.

Selfie Snap: No day at the mall is complete without photos.  Gather your favorite characters, pets and accessories for a quick photo which you can then post on the photo board.

Costume/Clothing Shop: Head inside and gather your favorite outfits and costumes for dress up!  Head inside the dressing room for a quick change for your next destination!

Toy Shop: This is a toy store of any children’s dreams – it features a flying rocket, airplane, ring stack, dinosaur and many more toys!  As a parent I personally loved the train.  My kids also loved the various dress up options, bouncing balls and musical instruments.Having the performance on stage was a bonus – they especially liked opening and closing the curtains.

I loved the open ended play of this app.  My son could spend as much or as little time on each activity as he wanted to.  He enjoyed each of the shops and the various games and interactions within.  I noticed that each time we played – he would often go back to the hair salon and cinema before heading up to the food court for a snack and a selfie!  He also enjoyed the pretend play with various dress up objects and we pretended that we were a variety of Dr. Panda characters as well as a Mom and a child heading to the mall.  As a parent I liked the diversity of the characters and variety of dress up clothes.  Navigation within the app is straightforward and you can always go to a map to start over in a new clean mall.   Inside the parental gate there is the ability to turn on/off sounds and background music as well as promotions.

My son wanted to be able to save the photos to our camera roll – but right now they are just saved within the app and when the board gets full there is no way to save your favorites.  My son also asked for additional dress up options like a construction outfit, security/police and a firefighter.  My older son asked for a toy building where he could construct his own stuffed animal – we found lots of clothes but he couldn’t make his own animal.

Overall, this is a super fun addition to the Dr. Panda suite of apps.  There are lots of new adventures to play with Dr. Panda friends and my kids spent hours inside the mall.  A great new addition to your Dr. Panda library.  This app is free with in-app purchases for the various stores/games within the app.  In app purchases range from $0.99 – $4.99 for all the shops and add ons.
