[prMac.com] Teaneck, New Jersey – Building upon an educational tradition that extends back 50 years, Kumon Publishing North America, Inc. today launches its first app for iPad, Kumon Uppercase ABC’s. This app features an innovative and interactive approach to helping children learn to write uppercase letters and recognize the sound of each letter.
Created by Kumon, the world’s largest supplemental learning provider, the Uppercase ABC’s app includes two educational activities. The Letter Tracing Activity features an innovative 3-step process for learning how to write letters, and an option for learning to write letters in order of simplicity, which is unique to Kumon. In the Letter Sounds Activity, children learn basic phonics by matching each written letter with the sound it makes in a fun quiz format.
“The Kumon Method of learning aims to help each individual child realize his or her full potential, and we are excited to release our first iPad app to support that goal in a whole new way,” said Brian Klingborg, Senior Vice President of Kumon Publishing North America, Inc.
In the Kumon Uppercase ABC’s app, the Letter Tracing Activity helps children master the uppercase alphabet. It features an innovative 3-step approach with interactive sights, sounds, and touch. Each stage challenges the child to write more independently than the previous step, and gives them three opportunities to practice writing each letter.
The parent can choose whether letters are shown in alphabetical, random, or Kumon order. The unique Kumon Method teaches letters in order of complexity, helping children master easier letters such as L and T before moving on to more challenging letters with diagonal or curved lines.
“Kumon Uppercase ABC’s includes reinforcement and rewards to make learning more fun,” Brian Klingborg said. “Each letter is paired with a delightful interactive illustration of a familiar word so children learn the basic phonics that lay the foundation for reading.”
When all of the letters are successfully completed, the child will receive a special Certificate of Achievement inside the app. This certificate can be customized with the student’s name and emailed for printing.
With the app’s Letter Sound Activity, children can practice matching the sound of each letter with its written symbol. The app asks aloud, “Touch the letter that makes the sound R” and the student chooses from three on-screen letters.
If an incorrect letter is tapped, the letter sound will repeat until the correct letter is chosen. When a child chooses the correct letter, its sound and name will be repeated to reinforce the knowledge before the next letter is shown.

[Source: prMac] Pleasantville, New York – Artgig Studio, a boutique interactive agency, today is pleased to announce the release of their new educational app, Alien Buddies, in the App Store. Alien Buddies, described by Apps For Homeschooling as an “incredibly fun way” to practice number names, number sequencing, letter names, shapes, and colors, is designed with a variety of games and play modes to suit a range of ages from Preschool to Kindergarten.
The games include:
* Matching: color, shape, letter and number recognition (audio and visual modes)
* Dot to Dot: sequential counting, fine motor skills
* Stickers: creative free play, fine motor skills (over 40 stickers and 8 landscapes)
In the visual and audio Matching games, the cast of cute and quirky characters will lead your child on an engaging journey to reinforce fundamental skills: recognizing colors, shapes, numbers and uppercase and lowercase letters.
The Dot to Dot game reinforces sequential counting with audio feedback and helps develop fine motor skills as your child completes each picture.
The Stickers activity builds learning confidence as kids are rewarded with stickers to create their own alien worlds.
Artgig President, Matthew Kicinski, says, “Alien Buddies continues the homegrown effort under our Artgig Apps brand to produce apps we want to make – for our children, and yours. Matching activities are pretty common for little kids but I think we’ve put a unique and quirky spin on these games that kids and parents will enjoy. And we’ve integrated the stickers activity so kids earn stickers as they play and then use those stickers in creative free play. We’ve seen children testing the game and coming back to it on their own, and that is extremely satisfying.”
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 3.2 or later
* 18.2 MB

The Alien’s are coming soon to a home near you. Newly released Alien Buddies, a universal app by Artgig Studios provides hours of fun and learning for children from preschool to early elementary school. Games include: dot to dot, matching by color, shape, letter and number (both audio and visual modes), and stickers. Using the friendly alien buddies, children can learn from a variety of characters who will teach them skills such as color recognition, letter recogntion, shapes and skills such as dragging and dropping to enhance fine motor skills.
Our favorite part of the app was the color matching game where children see various flying saucers come into the screen and have to either use listening skills (where they press on the front of the ship to hear what the color is), or visual skills to see which alien color goes into the spaceship. When they are successful, the spaceship flies away, if they are not, the alien is ejected with a cute “oh no!” and the child continues to look for the appropriate match. We also liked the stickers that were awarded for successfully completing an activity.
One thing I’d like to see is the dot to dot be a little bit easier, especially for younger kids. My son is in preschool and some of the shapes were too hard for him (15 – 20 dots) like the spaceship versus the star, perhaps the parent could hide the harder ones until the child learned how to do the dot to dots.
For an out of this world experience, you should try Alien Buddies. I bet your kids will have fun playing and have no idea they are learning. This video demo provides a great overview of the app.
