Dr. Panda’s Home by Dr. Panda is a universal app for iOS and allows your children to do chores in Dr. Panda’s House while earning an allowance for completing them. The app is done in 3D and has over 20 mini games and activities to complete. Your child is assigned a list of three chores which are checked off on a list as they are completed and then after they are completed, are awarded five coins for their piggy bank. Your child can either spend the coins on small toys or save them to get bigger toys for the toy shelf. The app is kid friendly and brings all of Dr. Panda’s animal friends to life while they help you do daily chores like emptying the dishwasher, cleaning the toilet and bathroom sink, sorting and doing a load of laundry, mowing the lawn, washing the windows and more. The app also helps with step by step directions, sequencing, following a task to completion as well as fine motor skills.
My favorite part of the app was how it encouraged children to help out with chores at home. The app is brightly colored and by setting a task list it encourages children to complete tasks as well as have fun with activities. My son loved washing the raccoon in the tub, he loves playing with toys in the tub so he’d like to see the ability to add a few toys from the toy shelf into the bathtub. I also liked that children earned coins for doing tasks which helps teach them responsibility as well as learning about all the chores required in the house. I also liked that the app transitions from day to night as you complete different chores.
In terms of improvements – I would love to see Dr. Panda teaching how to do tasks if children have a hard time with it. It would also be nice if parents could pick specific mini games like brushing teeth, bathing, doing laundry for specific times of the day. It would also be nice if coins earned in one game could be “saved” for a later game – when you close out of the app you lose any coins that you might have earned during game play.
This app contains no in-app purchases or advertising. It contains a parent locked area where parents can turn on and off the promotion screen, turn on and off music and sounds for the app as well as subscribe to the newsletter, like them on Facebook and review the app in iTunes. This area is accessed via a parent section which requires you to tap on a lock for a preset amount of times which varies upon each use.
The app is designed for preschoolers and early elementary aged children and it has brought my son hours of fun – and a better willingness to help out with chores at home. The app also helps with step by step directions, sequencing, following a task to completion as well as fine motor skills.
